Question ID
Mujtahid Name
Question I am studying and living in China for the last two years. China is a non-Muslim country. Few Muslims in my city, particularly, follow Saudi Arabia during the Holy month of Ramzan, starting and ending according to Saudi Arabia calender. If we see on the world map, and according to my understanding, China must follow Pakistan, instead of Saudi Arabia, because China is 5 hours ahead than Saudi Arabia in time as well. Therefore, how is it possible that moon can be visible in China before Pakistan. I am not expert to do some mathematical calculations to give correct approximation according to change in geography. Therefore, I want to follow Pakistan in terms of Ramzan Fasting Calender rather than to follow the Chinese schedule which is basically following Saudi Arabia. Although, most of the Muslims in my city, particularly Pakistanis, follow Saudi Arabia. Please tell me either can I follow Pakistan rather than Saudi Arabia or not? Because Pakistani Ramzan Calender is appealing me much more than Saudi Arabian's because of geographical location of Pakistan and China. In addition, my living city Hanzhou is in East China. Much far away from Saudi Arabia and even from Pakistan's border as well. Moreover, I have seen that Chinese Muslims offered Eid ul Fitr Prayer on second of Shawal last year and there was no fasting on 1st of Ramzan, because they need to take permission from government for Eid Prayer at least one day before the event (as I heard about it). This is information of my living city in China. Hence, Pakistan's Ramzan Fasting schedule is much appealing me to follow rather than Saudi Arabian's while living in Hangzhou, China. But it is a critical issue as most Pakistani's living here are following Saudi Arabia, even such contradictions are also present in Pakistan Therefore I am consulting a scholar to advice me in this matter. Looking for a prompt reply please, as the month of Ramzan is very close to start.
Answer You should be able to know that by sighting the new moon in your country or nearby countries that share the same horizon; in other words, if the crescent is sighted in one country, it should be seen in the other, were it not for natural barriers, such as clouds, mountainous terrain, and the like.
